Capsim Corporate Training Instructors

A distinguishing element of the Capsim organization is its instructor and consulting staff.

Co-owners Dan Smith and Craig Watters remain intimately involved with the delivery of the business simulations in both the academic and management training markets. Both split their time between the company’s Northfield, Illinois office headquarters, and on the road, teaching.

Craig Watters
CEO, co-owner, and training instructor
Craig has a degree in Accounting and Economics from Macquarie University in Australia, a Masters in Finance and Decisions Sciences from the Kellogg School of Management and doctorate of Philosophy and Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University. With more than 25 years experience in using modeling and simulations in the development and delivery of simulations, Craig focuses primarily on executive education and management training. Craig also spends time at the office headquarters but boasts about three million frequent traveler miles while traveling coast-to-coast and country-to-country delivering programs.

Dan Smith
President, co-owner, and training instructor
Dan has degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Masters of Management from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He is the primary architect behind all the company’s business simulations and while he is frequently in the office, is happiest when visiting schools and delivering training and coaching sessions to both participants and instructors. In Dan’s words, “I delight dropping into schools via my single engine airplane.”

Capsim is proud to introduce three additional instructor / trainers who are committed to teach, train and deliver the Capsim business simulation experience with zest and passion.

Paul Brennan
Paul Brennan has been part of the Capsim team for 10 years. Paul draws on more than 25 years in the market of high technology to deliver instructive, effective, and entertaining business simulation seminars. Participants speak appreciatively of Paul’s high energy, analytical skills kills, insights and coaching ability. Paul holds a BS degree from the University of Akron and an MBA from Oregon State University. Paul works with the Harvard Business School MBA program and also with the Harvard PLD Executive Training program delivering the simulation. He teaches various courses at Marylhurst University’s MBA Program including Quantitative Decision Making, Managerial Accounting, M&A, and Strategy.

Chris Papenhausen
Chris Papenhausen has been teaching the Capsim business simulations to audiences for 6 years. He is a regular Capsim instructor at General Electric and Harvard Business School. Before becoming Associate Professor of Strategic Management at University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, Chris worked for 10 years in the financial services industry. Chris holds an MBA from Northwestern University, a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and is a licensed CPA.

Jason Scott Earl
Jason Scott Earl joined the Capsim team 3 years ago. He is a professor of business management at Brigham Young University-Idaho with a focus on corporate finance, new venture creation, and entrepreneurial management. Prior to joining BYU, he was the president of StarStone, LLC, a material science technology company. Jason earned both his undergraduate and M.S degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering from Brigham Young University. He completed his MBA in corporate finance at Tulane University. In addition to StarStone, Jason worked for ExxonMobil as a structural engineer and as Director of Strategic Planning and Finance with World Minerals, Inc.
