Comp-XM is an assessment, or testing tool. Therefore, it is taken individually, and always after a student completes either the Foundation or Capstone business simulation.
Universities, professors, departments and deans can choose to use it to simply test their students (i.e. final exam), or to assess their student’s overall learning in order to meet Assurance of Learning requirements. It is recommended that anyone wanting to explore using Comp-XM call 877-477-8787 USA and Canada/Others 1-312-477-7200
or sign up online for a
1-to-1 demonstration.
Comp-XM is:
Fair. Each student sees similar questions, but all answers are very different. The question portion of Comp-XM is generated from data that is specific to an individual student’s decision-making during the simulation phase.
Secure. Every test is different enough to discourage group or team discussion.
Comprehensive. Comp-XM assesses judgment, analytical, and business acumen skills.
Self-paced. Students work alone, compete against three computer-managed teams, and advance themselves to subsequent steps.
The Phases of the Comp-XM Exam:
- A simulation similar in appearance and structure to Capstone or Foundation and consisting of four rounds.
- A series of board query questions that are presented with a final wrap up series of questions given at the end of the exam.
In Comp-XM there are four rounds of decision-making, five sets of board query questions, six modules, four products, and four market segments.
Students begin the exam in one of two ways: by completing a round of decision making; or by answering a series of web based quizzes. The quizzes, called Board Queries, consist of between 8 to 10 questions that are drawn from the unique results from the previous round of decision making. A student can answer up to five sets of questions related directly to his or her simulation decisions. Each exam is distinct, yet comparable to all other students’ exams.
This combination of decision-making and board query questions continues until the wrap up series of questions after Round 4. Comp-XM takes approximately 5 to 8 hours to complete. However, the anytime/anywhere environment of Comp-XM allows for flexibility.
As each round completes, results are immediately available to the professor.
Comp-XM automatically tabulates answers to all questions except the essay questions. Professors are able to review, download, store and print reports outlining the performance of each student.
