What should I put in Buy/Sell Capacity on the Production screen? |
|
If you look at Page 4 of the Foundation® FastTrack, you will see the number of units each product has sold in the previous year (in thousands). These numbers will help you determine how much capacity is appropriate for your product.
Here is an example: Keeping in mind that you can build up to twice your rated capacity with a second shift (or overtime, if the HR Module is on), you could if you wanted, build as many as 1,600 (in thousands) units of your initial product-- but why would you? In Round 0 you only sold 1,200 units. Clearly at the beginning of the simulation there is no need to buy more capacity for your initial product.
Looking at the Foundation® FastTrack Segment Analysis, note that in Round 0 840 units (in thousands) sold to the Low Tech segment and 360 units (in thousands) sold to the High Tech segment. Are you bringing out a product positioned exclusively in one or the other segment? These sales numbers will guide your capacity purchase decision.
